Dog / Cat ADOPTION Details

  • 3 min read

Looking to adopt a new furry family member into your life? Safari offers a number of dogs, kittens, and adult cats for adoption throughout the year ONLY at our Quartier Dix30 store in Brossard.

FAQ

Where are these dogs from?

All of our dogs come from MAPAQ (Ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation du Québec) certified breeders. MAPAQ also inspects our stores regularly and randomly to ensure compliance with strict regulations the government has put in place to keep domesticated animals safe and healthy. Safari does not condone "puppy mill" operations, nor do we deal with any puppy mills.

Do you need an appointment for an adoption?

No, we do not take appointments for adoption ahead of time. However, we will sometimes start a day-of waiting list if we are especially busy. We encourage clients to inquire about this upon their visit. We also encourage you to visit us during the week if possible, as weekend crowds can be heavy, and adoption viewings can fill up quickly.

These adoption fees are quite high compared to pre-2020 prices. Did you increase your prices?

As the pandemic hit and many people stayed home, many also chose to adopt a new pet - especially dogs and cats. Safari's breeders, along with breeders across North America, increased their prices substantially due to demand. When Safari resumed adoptions in mid-2020, our breeders were seeing such high demand that they kept their prices high. In turn, we also had to raise our prices in line with our breeders.

These prices have dropped considerably since 2020, and have stabilized, which we are happy to see.

Do you offer financing options for the adoption fees?

We have introduced financing options through Flexiti payment plans on 6 or 12 equal monthly payments. Please see us in-store for more information!

Can you supply me with pictures of the dogs you have?

Unfortunately not. We are a very small team here at Safari, and the work behind taking pictures of each and every dog or cat that passes through our doors would take time away from us caring for the animals, and serving our clients. We encourage anyone who is seriously considering adopting a new animal into their family to visit the store in-person at 9750 boul Leduc, Suite 10, Brossard, QC. We apologize any inconvenience.

Which breeds do you typically have?

We have a wide variety of breeds: Teckels/Dachshunds, Goldendoodles, Poodles, Shih Tzu, Labradors, Pomeranians, Chihuahuas, Yorkshire Terriers, Bichons, Jack Russell Terriers, Australian Shepherds, Shetlands, West Highland Terriers (Westies)...

We do not typically receive more rare boutique breeds such as Shiba Inu, Corgi, French Bulldogs, Malamutes, Great Danes, etc. If we do, it's exceptionally rare.

Do you know when you will receive [breed xyz]?

We unfortunately do not, and cannot provide specific timelines for when we will receive certain breeds of dogs or cats.

Why do you use the term "adoption"?

Whether you purchase an animal, or rescue them from a shelter (or other organization), you are indeed adopting a new furry family member into your life. That is why we use the term "adopt" - you are committing to the animal for the lifespan of that animal. We do not take the adoption of an animal lightly, and encourage families or individuals who are considering adopting any animal to take their time in considering whether the animal in question is right for them, and whether it is the right time for them to be bringing a new pet into their life.

Furthermore, Safari does not discourage anyone from adopting from reputable rescues and animal shelters. We regularly do adopt out abandoned and rescued adult cats, as well as kittens, ourselves!

What about other animals? Are they available for adoption too?

Yes - all animals (fish, birds, rodents/small animals, reptiles) are available for adoption. However, not all of our stores have the same selection of animals. Please contact your local store, or visit our Quartier Dix30 location for the widest selection of pets.
